Hi – tonight, like many times before, shuffle play on my ipod picks one of very fine tunes from ‘New Direction’ and brought a smile to my face. Upon reading the commendations and salutations on this page it seems like many others from far flung places I was not the only person to be entranced by your performance at Salamanca Market. Tonight I thought a little more about that performance as I’m shortly to return to Hobart for the first time in 3 years and wondered where these past years had taken your career – Wherever you are I hope you’re still able to be bringing joy to complete strangers through music.
    Peace

My wife and I visited Australia from Newfoundland, Canada for a month and listened to many great musicians in Melbourne and Sydney, but we were blown away by you guys when we were in Hobart. We can’t stop listening to New Direction. We wish you much success and look forward to your world tour (or even the Commonwealth tour!) and seeing you in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

    Regards,
    Mike

Hi guys! Totally loved you guys when we saw you perform in Tassie just this year January. We attended “Convention” where you performed for us one night, and again at Salamanca! You guys are amazing, keep it up! Look forward to seeing\hearing from you guys in the future…hopefully in other states!

    Hi there,

My husband and I recently visited Tasi for our 10th wedding anniversary and saw you play at Salamanca. We bought New Directions and play it ‘a lot’ at home. Our two boys are 8 & 6 and just starting to learn the guitar.

I’d love for them to see you play live as it would be such an inspiration to their budding love of music and guitar and wonder if you have plans to tour Melbourne?

If there is a list I can join I’d love to as it would be a shame to miss any upcoming trips you may have planned….if not, we’ll definitely bring them down to see you in Hobart soon!

By the way, I’d love to hear more lyrics on your next album….that voice is amazing.

Thanks to you our kitchen is an ever joyous place to be!

My wife and I (visiting from Queensland) were delighted by The Foley Artists’ performance at the Salamanca Markets, Hobart on Saturday 13th of September. We bought “New Direction”, and will encourage our music-loving family and friends to start following your career. The last time we heard such inspiring fresh talent was back in about 1990, when a then-unknown skinny young Greek guy was busking at Riverside Markets in Brisbane. Two years later, Yanni was performing to sell-out concerts (>50,000 fans) around the world. We think the Foleys just might be at the start of a long and brilliant career!!

The Foley Artists: You are amazing!

Hi, I write to you from sunny Mexico, I was in Hobart a couple months ago and I got to watch you play in the Salamanca Market, after asking my friends there who you were, I finally found out about you, and I just felt like letting you know, your work and music is awesome. I am looking forward to go back to Hobart someday next year, and would be great to see you again. I was wondering only, why don’t you make a facebook page? That’d be awesome, I could keep up to date on you guys. Hope you keep inspiring more people with your sound, it’s excellent!

You so hava a mexican fan here 😀

The best of luck for you!

    Mr. Foley,

My name is Brian, and I spoke with you on the phone today about getting a copy of your Drugs Don’t Work cover. I always stopped by the Salamanca market just to hear it; I like it better than the original. I can’t afford your full album but I would still like to give you something for it.

    Cheers,

    Brian

Thank you very much for those Russell.

    Tamlin is my favourite.
And yes please, I’d certainly like a .wav version of it so I can play it in my car–I listened to the CD today while driving.

I enjoy the crescendos best, they way the tune gets faster, also, it’s amazing how the different instruments can still keep together all the time, doing heir own thing but also part of the same tune and so complementing each other, like the players had ESP. And seeing them in Salamanca they made that following each other look so effortless.
And there’s a few sort of choruses in their too, and the music is sort of speaking.
There’s one famous tune, Pacobel’s Canon in D minor? that does something similar, though not quite as lively.
(Excuse my terminology, I’m not a musician.)

While driving some time ago by moonlight in the outback near Ivanhoe (NSW) a large mother kangaroo came in front of my car and right beside it was its joey. I didn’t have time to brake but at the last moment the doe went to one side and the joey followed within the same bounce– neither went under the wheel.
It sounds like these Foley players can follow each other with their instruments that closely.
And they’re still each quite young!

    Regards,
    Chris.
